All mothers are the same whether the mother is of the rich or the poor, is like a cool shade for her children. Mother is the name of a selfless lover and life-long best friend. She is a blessing to her children and such a blessing is removed from their heads on her death. Similarly, the blessing of a mother has also been taken away from Mian brothers when the mother of Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shehbaz Sharif left and became dear to Allah Almighty.
The news of the demise of Begum Shamim Akhtar, the mother of the Sharif brothers, was heard all over the country with feelings of grief and sorrow.May Allah raise the ranks of the late and give patience to those who are left behind that the loss of a mother is a great shock. On this occasion, the manner in which the grief was expressed by various sections of the society, including the President and the Prime Minister, is commendable because there is nothing more than humanity and mothers are the same for everyone.
People who have had the opportunity to meet Ms. Shamim Akhtar, see her at a party or listen to her talk, all think she was a straightforward, devout housewife who had nothing to do with any political activity or worldliness except that whoever came before her and greeted her with respect, she used to pray for him endlessly in his gentle and kind tone. While the late Majeed Nizami says that Ms. Shamim Akhtar is no ordinary woman, a general impression is that the iron personality and temperament of their father Mian Muhammad Sharif is very much involved in the upbringing and training of Sharif brothers, this impression is not so wrong, but in my personal opinion, their mother’s share is much greater.
One aspect of Ms. Shamim Akhtar’s personality was that of a loyal and dignified housewife, but at the same time she was also a spiritual woman, which is why the Mian brothers, especially Mian Nawaz Sharif would come to her service before every decision and first inform her of his plans, decisions and political adventures and then take any action only after her permission.
In this regard, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami and Jameel AtharQazi support it in such a way that this family, accustomed to luxuries, suffered a series of misfortunes after 1999. These people not only lost power and were sent to jails, but there were trials like the deaths of Mian Sharif, Abbas Sharif and Kulsoom Nawaz, but at all these stages, unlike a traditional woman, she did not weaken her husband and sons but stood behind them like a rock. In Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shehbaz Sharif’s success, the role of their mother’s patronage and guidance is paramount.
The Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had refused to go abroad when he fell ill in jail and efforts were made to send him out of the country. At this stage too, the higher authorities had contacted his mother and requested her to do so. That his son’s health is bad, if it worsens, it will be very complicated, so you persuade him to send abroad, and this crisis was also averted from the mobilization of the late Shamim Akhtar, Even though she left this world and played an important role in the national life despite being a pure housewife, she will be remembered in the political history of Pakistan for her role.
Begum Shamim Akhtar lived a full life and along with her family’s prosperous life, she also witnessed and endured the hardships that befell this family in different periods and kept on urging her children to always be steadfast. She had gone to London after the release on bail of Mian Nawaz Sharif and was staying with him. For the last month, her health has been deteriorating and due to her ill health, she went to Allah Almighty. Her body is being brought to Pakistan and the burial will take place at a designated place next to her husband Mian Sharif.
The Punjab government has made a commendable decision by announcing the release on parole of her detained son Mian Shehbaz Sharif and grandson Hamza Shehbaz for attending the funeral of the deceased, which should be carried out without any hesitation. Since it is a basic requirement of humanity to act generously on such occasions, they should be released on more days than expected as people from all over the country have to come for condolences of their late mother.
Unfortunately, due to the lack of tolerance in our politics, the tradition of not tolerating each other even in times of joy and sorrow is getting stronger. Of course, the release of Mian Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz on parole by the government is a positive decision, but it does not seem possible for Nawaz Sharif to return to the country with his mother’s body as he fears that he will be punished by law as soon as he returns. In any case, he must abide by the laws and justice of the country.
However, Nawaz Sharif has had to bear the trauma of the death of his father, wife and mother during the hardships of his political life, but our politics is so ruthless that even after hearing the news of the death of Begum Mian Muhammad Sharif’s death, the PDM leaders did not feel the need to cancel their ongoing rally in Peshawar or turn it into a condolence rally. While Maryam Nawaz left the meeting without giving a speech after hearing the news of her grandmother’s death, the tragedy of Begum Mian Muhammad Sharif’s demise is an equal part of the grief of the entire Sharif family, because mothers are the same for everyone. May Allah Almighty elevate her to a high position in Paradise, Ameen

KARACHI, NOV 27 - New Zealand’s Director-general Health Ashley Bloomfield has stated that several members of the Pakistan squad were caught ‘mingling’ in hallways while in managed isolation at Christchurch’s Chateau on the Park hotel.
While talking to RNZ’s Morning Report, Bloomfield said that their behavior was unacceptable and CCTV showed the players had not been abiding by the arrangements that had been clearly set out for them.
“Rather than being in their own rooms which is a requirement for that first three days, until that first test comes back, there was some mingling in the hallways, chatting, sharing food and not wearing masks,” he said.
He revealed that the mingling happened only once but it only had to happen once for authorities to take a dim view of that.
Meanwhile, he said that the positive cases had been moved to separate quarantine rooms in the hotel and all players would be tested at least four times before leaving the facility.
“The team had since been ordered to stay in their rooms and have been stripped of their training privileges,” he added.
However, it is yet to clarify whether any of the six people who tested positive were involved in the hallway mingling incident.
Pakistan team underwent COVID-19 tests on Friday while no decision has been made regarding an exemption to allow the players to train.

ISLAMABAD, NOV 26 - Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis Zulfiqar Bukhari on Thursday denied media reports of the United Arab Emirates' move to suspend the issuance of work visas to Pakistanis, saying that there was "no ban on export of Pakistani workforce".
In a two-part tweet, Bukhari said that "contrary to media reports", UAE Minister for Human Resources and Emiratisation Nasser bin Thani Al Hamli had "categorically stated that there is no ban on export of Pakistani workforce". Furthermore, the UAE was giving priority to those workers, who were registered on the Virtual Labour Market Database and had been laid off due to the economic slump caused by Covid-19, Bukhari tweeted.
The tweets come a day after media reports that the UAE had temporarily stopped issuing new visas to citizens of Pakistan, Afghanistan and several mostly Muslim majority countries over security concerns.
On Thursday, the premier's aide added that there has been an 11 per cent increase Pakistani knowledge workers in the UAE. The Arab state was also encouraging applications for the 10-year golden visa, Bukhari said.
"Looking forward to continued collaboration with UAE leadership to address the issues of our diaspora," the special assistant to the prime minister on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development said in his tweet.
The ruling PTI also tweeted about SAPM Bukhari's virtual meeting with the UAE minister, saying that the premier's aide wanted to "dispel the negative reports on ban on Pakistani workers".
Suspension of visas
The tweets come days after reports emerged that the UAE had temporarily stopped issuing visas to citizens of a dozen countries, including those of Pakistan. The Foreign Office had confirmed the development last week, saying that UAE's decision was "believed to be related to the second wave of Covid-19".
"We are seeking official confirmation from the concerned UAE authorities in this regard," FO spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri had said, adding that the suspension was expected to last for a short time period.
However, yesterday media outlets reported that the visa issuance was stopped due to security concerns. The 13 countries, which would not be issued a visa for the time being, include Pakistan, Afghanistan and several mostly Muslim majority countries.
In a press briefing earlier today, FO spokesperson Chaudhri said that the change in UAE's visa policy has not been confirmed.
According to a document issued by a state-owned business park, UAE has stopped issuing new visas to citizens of 13 countries, including Iran, Syria and Somalia.
The document, which was sent to companies operating in the park, cited an immigration circular that came into effect on November 18.
It said applications for new employment and visit visas had been suspended for nationals, who are outside the UAE, of the 13 countries, including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Libya and Yemen, until further notice.
The visa ban also applies to citizens of Algeria, Kenya, Iraq, Lebanon, Tunisia and Turkey, the document says.
It was not clear if there were any exceptions to the ban.

As per the Government directions, all academic institutions shall be closed from November 26, 2020 until 24 December 2020. However, they shall continue to deliver education through online or hybrid means or through assigning homework (especially if there are problems of connectivity). The Winter Holidays shall be scheduled from December 25, 2020 to January 10, 2021, and all academic institutions shall remain closed during this period.
Academic institutions are scheduled to open on January 11, 2021. However, a review meeting will be held during the first week of January 2021 to assess the situation, and authorise opening of academic institutions.
In the light of the Government directions, the Vice Chancellors have been authorised to allow small groups of “essential” individuals on campus, subject to implementation of scrutiny mechanisms or safeguards. Only certain categories of students may be allowed on campus. These categories may comprise low income students who may have connectivity problems at home because of lack of access to the Internet or the availability of proper devices, foreign students, those PhD or MPhil students (or final year students) who need to use the laboratories to complete their thesis work, or third year or higher medical students who need to obtain clinical training.
The total number of the students permitted to come to campus should not exceed 30 per cent of the total enrollment, or a lower number if dictated by the campus conditions.

All SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) shall be implemented strictly and diligently. The universities will put in place appropriate measures including isolating hostel residents (i.e., treating the hostel as a safe bubble) to protect them from external infection. Besides, the universities shall draw up rules regarding the presence of faculty members or staff on campus.
“All the Vice Chancellors and heads of institutions shall ensure that the flexibility granted by the government is exercised in a judicious manner, authorised at the highest level, and monitored and managed effectively and efficiently,” reads the new Policy Guidance.
HEC has also released Rs. 10 million each to all public sector universities to help them establish any supportive arrangements needed to improve the quality of the online education process. Besides, the universities may recruit senior, tech-savvy students to assist faculty members in technology related problems involved in online education.
Furthermore, HEC has constituted a COVID Response Oversight Committee to collaborate with the Vice Chancellors in their respective regions, clarify questions or concerns, share best practices, and oversee implementation.

ISLAMABAD, NOV 26 - The Online International Conference on “Azerbaijan-Armenia Armed Conflict: Causes and Implications for the Regional Dynamics of South Caucasus” was jointly organized by the Center of Global and Strategic Studies (CGSS) Islamabad, and ADA University, Baku, Azerbaijan.
The aim of the conference was to analyze the implications on the security and stability of the Caucasus region, the successful foreign policy of Azerbaijan and the Nagorno Karabakh region, and other significant aspects of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict.
The conference was commenced by the opening remarks of Brig Akhtar Nawaz Janjua (Retd), Senior Member Advisory Board CGSS. He stated that there are many important lessons that we can learn from this war, where there is a will there is a way and our brothers in Azerbaijan have shown commendable strength and courage in the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict. The truth has prevailed and Azerbaijan stands victorious.
Mr. Fariz Ismail zade, Executive Vice-Rector, ADA University, Baku, Azerbaijan stated that since the disintegration of the Soviet Union, things took an uncertain turn. He mentioned that Azerbaijan was supported by many countries in the international community. He further mentioned that when the Soviet Union was weakening, Armenians started to occupy this land. On March 2nd, 1992, when Azerbaijan was accepted in the UN, Nagorno-Karabakh was accepted as a part of Azerbaijan and the international community accepted it without any objection. Armenia, in the meanwhile, occupied the Nagorno-Karabakh region which created a refugee crisis.
Mr. Fariz Ismail zade further discussed, there were areas very difficult to liberate but the professional behavior shown by the Azerbaijan army played an important role. Azerbaijan’s army successfully liberated important areas.
Major General Dr. Shahid Ahmad Hashmat HI(M), (Retd), Senior Member Advisory Board, CGSS mentioned that the conflict is almost 100 years old. The UN resolutions after this demanded de-escalation and return of refugees and return of land to Azerbaijan, but none of this happened. Minsk group was formed and diplomatic efforts were done but to no avail.
He further explained that on 27th September 2020, both countries alleged each other for escalation. War continued and Azerbaijan reoccupied areas up to Shusha and would have occupied the capital in the coming days had there been no ceasefire agreement. He further highlighted that Azerbaijan has strived towards a long-lasting solution for peace in the region. But the problem remains and it will be most suitable if it is solved in the next 10 years.
Colonel Mehman Novruzov, Defence Attache of the Embassy of Azerbaijan to Pakistan mentioned that according to Armenia, Azerbaijan will not be able to breach their defense lines which were heavily fortified with minefields. The new Armenian government tried to apply a hard-line military narrative for occupying new territories at the expense of Azerbaijan. In pursuance of this motive, Armenian military aggression against Azerbaijani civilians continued.
Hence, the counteroffensive peace operation by Azerbaijani political leadership was given a go-ahead.He discussed the warfare strategies, operational and tactical preparedness of Azerbaijan and shared a comprehensive presentation describing the timeline of the conflict. He shared informative videos of the armed conflict and stated that about 400 Azerbaijan personnel fought successfully against 4000 heavily armed Armenian forces equipped with heavy artillery and tanks. Discussing the battle of Shusha he stated that this will be remembered in modern warfare history.
Mr. Samir Guliyev, Deputy head of the Mission, Embassy of Azerbaijan to Pakistan Azerbaijan’s main aim was to establish peace and cooperative relations with its neighboring as well as other neighboring countries for a win-win situation. Coming to this conflict, Mr. Samir mentioned that Azerbaijani was always supported by provisions and directions of international law which were constantly ignored by Armenia. Many countries accepted Azerbaijan’s point of view with due course of time because of its basis on international conflict.
Mr. Samir Guliyev further stated that Pakistan’s and Turkey’s cooperation is an example of the international support received by Azerbaijan. He also highlighted the cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
Prof. Dr. Azar Babayev from ADA University, Baku, Azerbaijan mentioned that Azerbaijan’s Armed Conflict is a very important question to ask from the international and analytical perspective because of the misunderstanding and misinterpretation of this conflict on the international level. According to the international legal system, Nagorno-Karabakh is part of Azerbaijan and under the perspective of international law, it is an occupied territory. The international legal system plays a very important part in it. Four resolutions were adopted by UNSC regarding this conflict in the 1990s. As there are no Security Council resolutions regarding other conflicts, the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict can be singled out because of these international resolutions. He also emphasized that Azerbaijan is the clear winner of this armed conflict. It was not only a war of military but also a war of political and academic level that Azerbaijan has won.
Dr. Mehmood Ul Hassan Khan, Member Board of Experts, CGSS & Regional Geopolitical Analyst stated that dreams have come true and the liberation of Nagorno-Karabakh has become a reality. Armenia was forced to sign a peace treaty with Russia and Azerbaijan for solving this issue. An illegal occupier, Armenia, has disturbed the geography of this region for a long time. On 27th September 2020, Azerbaijan responded after persistent Armenian shelling on Azerbaijani territory and presented an outstanding example of courage and bravery.
He also highlighted that fascist Armenia indiscriminately attacked the infrastructure and civilian population of Azerbaijan On the other Azerbaijan did not kill a single Armenian civilian, school, or hospital and answered the enemy on the battlefield. Describing the impressive leadership qualities, he stated that President Ilham Aliyev increased Azerbaijan’s ties with Turkey and increased its strategic relations with Pakistan that diplomatically helped Azerbaijan against Armenia.
The conference was concluded with the closing remarks of Mr. Fariz Ismail zade, Executive Vice-Rector, ADA University, Baku, Azerbaijan. He expressed his gratitude to panelists from Azerbaijan and Pakistan and specifically thanked CGSS for their support to Azerbaijan and raising awareness regarding the Azerbaijan-Armenia armed conflict.
The conference was moderated by Ms. Palwasha Nawaz, Project Executive, CGSS, and was attended by 100 participants from Pakistan and Azerbaijan. The conference was also viewed live on Facebook.

BUCHAREST, NOV 2020 - Romania's president sought to dispel rumors that authorities would enforce a national lockdown immediately after parliamentary elections on Dec. 6 and claimed that local restrictions in high-risk areas were beginning to pay off.
For weeks, there has been widespread speculation on social media and in the media that authorities are waiting for elections to be over in order to impose strict restrictions nationwide to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
But President Klaus Iohannis on Wednesday denied authorities were planning such a move.
"We won't have another lockdown," he said referring to a two-month state of emergency at the beginning of the pandemic.
The president said that recent restrictions in places where there were Covid-19 outbreaks had begun to pay dividends.
"We have reached a plateau and there is a tendency for cases to drop," he said at a news conference at the Cotroceni presidential palace.
“The strategy…. Is to continue to enforce local and regional quarantine measures where there is a spike in cases. ”
Romania added 9,739 new cases on Wednesday, the highest single-day rate since Nov. 19. Bucharest reported almost 1,500 cases and the Black Sea Constanta region had about 750 cases a single-day jump of 5.26%. Constanta entered quarantine on Friday evening.
Mr. Iohannis said the National Institute of Public Health had confirmed that cases began to drop starting Nov. 20, two weeks after restrictions were introduced in high-risk areas.
There were fewer cases reported Wednesday in some counties in Transylvania which imposed restrictions following a spike in previous weeks.
The president cautioned: “This is just a start. We haven't defeated the virus, ”and“ any premature relaxation jeopardizes ”our successes.
He said local restrictions which limited people's movements “inhibited the spread of the virus,” touting the Transylvanian counties of Cluj, Salaj, Sibiu and Maramures as success stories, places where restrictions had resulted in a drop in case numbers.
“I want to be very clear, there is no intention, I don’t intend to impose a national lockdown at a national level after parliamentary elections on Dec. 6 ”blaming“ unscrupulous politicians trying to promote sensational news. ”
