Karabakh is an integral part of Azerbaijan and there can be no question of any status: Foreign Ministry

BAKU, SEPT 13: Karabakh is an integral part of Azerbaijan and there can be no question of any status.

This was reported by the press secretary of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Leyla Abdullayeva.

"Such statements by the US Ambassador are unacceptable. The conflict is left behind, Azerbaijan has ensured its territorial integrity and the East Zangezur and Karabakh economic regions were created by the order of the President of the country dated July 7, 2021.

These territories are an integral part of Azerbaijan and there can be no question of any status. ", - she stressed.

The representative of the foreign ministry noted that a new reality has formed in the region with the trilateral statement of November 10, 2020.

"While it is possible to normalize relations on the basis of the principles of international law, the US representative makes a statement that serves to aggravate the situation and creates unreasonable expectations on the other side," Abdullayeva added.

According to her, such statements by the representative of the co-chairing country of the OSCE Minsk Group cast a shadow on the future activities of the structure.

Three Brothers-2021" Military Exercises By Mehmood Ul Hassan

Mehmood Ul Hassan

According to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defence (September 11, 2021) “Three Brothers-2021" military exercises will be started for the first time in Baku tomorrow in which  military units of three brotherly countries Azerbaijan, Pakistan and Turkey having strategic partnerships will participate. It has great prospects showing the successful development of the close ties in the field of defense among three countries.

The main objective of the joint exercises is to improve the professional preparedness and tactical readiness of the Special Forces Units (SFUs) of brotherly countries during numerous combat operations, prepare for operations in peacetime and wartime, exchange knowledge and experience.

It has also regional as well as trans-regional signaling and gestures because rapidly changing geo-political and geo-strategic scenarios demand a close liaison among Azerbaijan, Pakistan and Turkey to deter any external aggression or attack. It will definitely further strengthen their deterrence capabilities. It will further explore different avenues of joint ventures in terms of military training, education, research and of course production in the days to come. After its successful completion the regional as well as trans-regional war theater will be further modified and tilled in favour of Azerbaijan.

It is indeed continuation of famous “Shusha Declaration “SD”, highlighting close liaison in terms of economy, culture, education, and parliamentary cooperation and last but not least in the fields of defense and security. It will hopefully further strengthen bilateral and trilateral military cooperation among three countries.

Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry termed it important and first step to improve the combat interoperability of the Special Forces from the three countries, to "prepare for operations in peacetime and wartime," and to exchange "knowledge and experience. The nine-day exercise is due to begin on September 12.

In this context, earlier this year, troops from Turkey and Azerbaijan held joint military drills in Baku.

It hopes that the “Three Brothers-2021” International Exercises will play important role to create a favorable environment for the exchange of knowledge and experience, as well as for the training of the servicemen of friendly and partner countries for operations in peacetime and wartime.

In July 2021, the speakers of the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Pakistan signed the Baku Declaration following the first of its kind.

In September 2020, Armenian forces launched attacks on civilians and Azerbaijani forces in the 44 days long war during which Azerbaijan merged as victor and long conflict ended in an agreement on November 10.

During the war Azerbaijan’s better military preparedness, tactical and professional superiority, use of innovative and advanced technologies of warfare, effective and ideal combination of human as well as artificial intelligence mechanism and last but not least, “visionary leadership” of Ilham Aliyev ultimately achieved a “miracle” in the second war for the liberation of illegally occupied areas of Nagorno-Karabakh from fascist Armenia.

Furthermore, outstanding military formations of Azerbaijan armed forces drastically changed the concept of “war threat” history and moreover, excellent diplomatic maneuverings of incumbent president HE Ilham Aliyev regionally and globally left no options for Armenia and its supporters to accept defeat and leave the illegally occupied areas.

In this connection, Azerbaijan liberated several cities and nearly 300 settlements and villages in Karabakh from a nearly three decade occupation.

Turkey and Azerbaijan enjoy strong relations, as the two countries embrace the "one nation, two states" motto. During his presidency, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has visited Azerbaijan more than 20 times, while the number of delegation visits has reached more than 100.

Holding of “Three Brothers-2021” military exercises is a good omen for the further strengthening of trilateral strategic dialogue/partnership and military cooperation among Pakistan, Azerbaijan and Turkey which will hopefully change the basic dynamics, directions and development concepts of the region in the days to come.

In the past, series of bilateral and trilateral military drills among Azerbaijan, Pakistan and Turkey signaled the emergence of new defense partnership in the region. It will actually further strengthen bilateral and trilateral defense cooperation in terms of joint exercise, production, technical education and tactical preparedness.

Especially, after the visit of Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa to Baku the prospects of further strengthening of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan have been further brightened in terms of military cooperation.

On its part, Pakistan has been assisting Azerbaijan in terms of military, naval and air force training in Pakistan. Both the countries have been in serious negotiations for the sale of JF-17 Thunder with Azerbaijan which is now at advance stage. Both countries have been extending their expertise in modern warfare which proved terminal in the 2nd War of Karbakah.

Pakistan Chiefs of Air Forces, Naval and General Nadeem Raz paid personal visit to Baku and extended their experiences and expertise for the befitting propositions of resettlement, redevelopment, reinvestments, and reconstruction of all the newly liberated areas of Karabakh Region.

Even Azerbaijan Naval Commander visited Pakistan and met with Naval and armed Forces chiefs and discussed matters of mutual interest pertaining to regional peace and stability which has now further strengthened scope, domain and prospects of air force and naval cooperation between two the two countries.

Director General of FWO also paid visit to Baku and explored various avenues of mutual cooperation in infrastructural projects, cleaning of deadly landmines and prospective cooperation in gold mining.

In the past, Pakistan and Azerbaijan signed the “Bilateral Military Cooperation Agreement” which consequently geared up military cooperation between two countries.

Azerbaijan and Pakistan hold relatively similar weaponry and military vehicle systems which would be common bench mark to proceed further. It is suggested that proposed military cooperation may also include regular military exercises between the comparable services of both armed forces. Exchange of valuable strategic information as well as common approaches towards the territorial armed conflict postures can be a natural extension in improving bilateral relations in defence.

Being prominent regional expert of Azerbaijan & South Caucasus I highly rate the holding of “Three Brothers-2021” Military Exercises and term it historic, positive and productive. It has numerous geopolitical and geostrategic benefits for Azerbaijan, Pakistan and Turkey. The rapidly changing trends in the region encourage close ties in terms of economy, trade & commerce and of course military cooperation.

History and evolution of human civilization reveals that strong defense is the real guarantor of national pride and territorial sovereignty. Thus Three Brothers-2021 Military Exercise is a right step towards right direction.

Dozens of women rally in support of Taliban government in Kabul

KABUL, SEPT 12: Dozens of women on Saturday marched in support of the Taliban government in the Afghan capital, local media outlets reported.

Dozens of women wearing black hijabs and waving Taliban flags staged the gathering at the Kabul Educational University and later marched through nearby streets, according to footage from pro-Taliban media.

The Taliban provided security for these women and officially invited journalists to cover the event.

In recent days, Taliban fighters have violently suppressed anti-Pakistan and anti-Taliban protests by hundreds of men and women across the country demanding freedom, education and equal rights.

Journalists were detained and tortured for covering the protests.

Reacting to Saturday’s event, Afghan activist Hamidullah said on Twittter that participants “do not represent Afghan women as a whole.”

“I’m not sure they are all women because I have seen hundreds of Taliban in women’s clothes in the past years,” Daud Naji, a former senior government official, wrote on Twitter.

In the meantime, anti-Taliban and anti-Pakistan protests continued in the provincial capital of Nimruz on Saturday, a former local official confirmed.

A group of women protested in Zaranj city, chanting “justice and freedom are our inalienable rights,” according to footage posted on social media.

Japan says suspected Chinese submarine seen near territorial waters

TOKYO, SEPT 12: Japan’s defence ministry said on Sunday that a submarine believed to be from China was spotted in waters near its southern islands, as maritime tensions persist in the Pacific.

Japan’s navy on Friday morning identified a submerged vessel sailing northwest just outside territorial waters near Amami Oshima island, part of Kagoshima prefecture, the ministry said in a statement. A Chinese destroyer was also spotted in the vicinity.

Tokyo has complained of numerous intrusions by Chinese vessels into its territorial waters and near disputed islands in recent years. China has often reacted angrily to U.S. ships sailing through disputed areas of the South China Sea in what Washington calls displays of freedom of navigation.

Senior Chinese diplomat Wang Yi, visiting Vietnam during a Southeast Asia trip, said those two countries should refrain from unilateral actions regarding the South China Sea that could complicate and magnify disputes.

Sunday’s announcement said Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Force identified the vessels in a contiguous zone, which is outside territorial waters where vessels are required to identify themselves. Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi instructed his staff to “gather information and maintain vigilant surveillance with a sense of urgency,” the statement said.

China’s Defence Ministry did not respond to a request for comment immediately and officials at the Chinese embassy could not immediately be reached for comment on Sunday.

The submarine continued underwater westward in the ocean near Yokoate Island, the ministry said.

PFUJ appeals for mass participation in dharna outside parliament tomorrow

ISLAMABAD, SEPT 11: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) is going to stage a historic dharna outside the parliament against the government plans to establish a new headquarter of censorship in the name of Pakistan Media Development Authority (PMDA).

The PFUJ has appealed to the entire journalists’ community, civil society, human rights groups, trade unions, workers’ associations, students’ groups, digital rights advocates and the citizens to join the dharna that will be staged on the eve of the President of Pakistan’s annual address to the joint sitting of the Senate and National Assembly scheduled for September 13.

“It is time for unity around a common cause. The proposed PMDA will not just be a body to regulate the media sector but will serve as the central censorship office of the State aimed at regulating the freedoms of expression of all citizens of Pakistan,” a statement issued by PFUJ President Shahzada Zulfiqar and General Secretary Nasir Zaidi said.

“We are appealing to all sections of media, civil society and concerned citizens from all walks of life to join and participate in the peaceful PFUJ dharna on the morning of September 13, 2021, outside the National Assembly in Islamabad,” they said.

A dharna camp will be established in front of parliament on the night of Sunday (September 12) and the leadership will spend the night in the camp till the conclusion of the joint sitting of the parliament on Monday.

“The dharna is aimed at demonstrating solidarity and pooling widespread support against the creation of PMDA and strategizing the protection of freedom of expression of citizens, defending the rights of journalists and pre-empting the planned assault on independent media in the country,” the statement said.

The PFUJ leaders said that the continuous onslaught by the government against the rights of media workers, the safety of journalists and their economic strangulation has reached its highest limits ever leaving the media sector teetering on the brink of collapse.

“The PMDA is a planned one-window operation to impose widespread censorship through a pooling of the budgets of several media regulators thereby providing massive resources to government proxies to crack down on the media so that it becomes totally captured and too weak to provide professional coverage of upcoming elections,” the statement said.

“The proposed PMDA, therefore, is not just a media manipulation mechanism, it will also serve to undermine democracy and parliamentary system, which is why it is necessary for all journalists, workers, students, teachers, lawyers, activists and other citizens to join this dharna to foil the nefarious designs against democracy and free media in Pakistan,” the PFUJ leaders added.

Shahzada Zulfiqar and Nasir Zaidi urged the entire media community and civil society to show unity and commitment for the rights of journalists and citizens’ rights to freedom of expression and access to information by opposing the coming “media martial law.”

EXCLUSIVE: A short review of US statement on engagement with Taliban

EXCLUSIVE by Editor-In-Chief

Farukh Shehzad

In today’s post I will try to review on recently given statement of State Department spokesperson of United States Ned Price on Saturday about engagement with Taliban in which US spokesperson has said that United States of America will closely watch the policies of Taliban and if United States saw those policies of newly established Afghanistan’s government interesting and in favor of United States of America only then we will established relationship with Taliban.

But I personally think that this wish of United States cannot be fulfilled because I feel Taliban fought with US for getting freedom and passing their lives according to beautiful Islamic laws (Shariya) for 20 years or more in Afghanistan they fought for a valuable cause and they defeated Americans forces.

So, I personally believe that Taliban did not fight just for making policies according to interest of United States of America for sure.

Also Read: US to engage with Taliban when it’s in America’s interest

Moreover Taliban will design their policies according to their desire by following beautiful Islamic laws and for which they struggled until now.

A lot of people and media talking about economic crises in Afghanistan but I feel Taliban and Afghan nation will be able to manage this as they are well aware of our Islamic history because we have several stories exist in the history of beautiful religion Islam where people were living a beautiful and comfortable life in a low economic situation.

New UK-Switzerland deal boosts healthcare for travellers

LONDON, SEPT 11: The UK and Switzerland have signed an agreement which will benefit citizens who live and work abroad in either country by ensuring they are able to receive healthcare cover and uprated state pensions, among other social security entitlements.

It will also allow eligible individuals travelling to either country to access necessary healthcare when abroad using a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or its UK successor, the Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC).

The Convention on Social Security Coordination, which benefits citizens of both countries also supports business and trade by ensuring that cross-border workers and their employers are only liable to pay social security contributions in one state at a time.

Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office minister, Nigel Adams, who signed the agreement said: “I am pleased to be able to sign the UK-Switzerland Convention on Social Security Coordination.

“This will help give people certainty over their future incomes, ensure our citizens can continue to receive reciprocal healthcare and support business and trade links between our two countries.”

The agreement covers a wide range of social security benefits for eligible individuals.

Those living abroad in either country will be able to receive healthcare, uprated pensions and other benefits.

This includes healthcare cover for UK state pensioners, those exporting maternity allowance, and certain categories of cross-border workers.

US to engage with Taliban when it’s in America’s interest

WASHINGTON, SEPT 11: The United States would engage with the Taliban when it’s in America’s interest to do so, although it’s not yet ready to recognise the Taliban government.

At a Thursday afternoon’s news briefing, State Department spokesperson Ned Price also said that Pakistan shared concerns of the international community on Afghanistan and wanted to protect the gains of the last 20 years.

“There’s a distinction … between broad issues like recognition and legitimacy and practical engagement,” said Mr Price while explaining how the Biden administration plans to engage with the Taliban.

State Dept says Pakistan working to protect gains of last 20 years

“I think you’ve heard from us, you’ve heard from other governments, that when it is in our interest to engage the Taliban on the basis of our national self-interest, we will do that,” he said, adding that at the ministerial meeting “we heard a similar sentiment from other countries involved as well”.

Asked to comment on Pakistan’s role in Afghanistan, Mr Price said Islamabad conveyed its position on Afghanistan at a recent ministerial meeting co-hosted by the US and Germany.

“Pakistan was engaged in the ministerial meeting, and we heard from the Pakistanis very similar sentiment to what we heard from other countries that participated,” he said. “There was widespread agreement, including from our Pakistani partners, that the gains of the last 20 years should not be squandered.”

US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken and German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas co-hosted the ministerial meeting on Afghanistan on Wednesday. Both Pakistan and India participated in the meeting along with a dozen other countries and international groups, like the European Union, Nato and the United Nations.

Secretary Blinken used his speech to urge unity in mitigating a potential humanitarian crisis and on holding the Taliban accountable on counterterrorism, safe passage for foreign and Afghan citizens and on forming an inclusive government that respects basic rights.

Secretary Blinken said that the United States would continue to “use economic, diplomatic, and political tools to support the rights of the Afghan people, especially women and girls, and to ensure that Afghanistan does not become a safe haven for terrorism”.

The participants, particularly Afghanistan’s neighbours, agreed to do everything “we can, to prevent a deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan”, Mr Price said.

“And this is especially acutely held and felt by those countries bordering Afghanistan, knowing that the humanitarian implications could be acute for those countries in the region,” he added.

“That’s why the US was reviewing its bilateral assistance to the government of Afghanistan and has continued to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan,” Mr Price said.

Even in recent months, he said, the US has provided hundreds of millions of dollars of humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan. In June, the US provided over $250 million to Afghans, which doubled to $500 million in July. Some of this is intended for internally displaced persons inside Afghanistan.

“It’s an enduring commitment, felt dearly not only by the United States but by countries in the region and by countries well beyond,” Mr Price said.
