KARACHI, MAR 10: Pakistan is facing a steep rise in the prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCD). Recent figures from IDF Atlas are staggering depicting a sharp increase in diabetes. Pakistan ranked 3rd in number of people living with diabetes in the world only after China and India, the countries with highest number of populations.
In Pakistan, 1 in 4 adults (26.7%) are living with diabetes accounting for 33 million people, the burden of the disease is expected to increase as about 10.5 million people suffer from intermittent hyperglycemia and this disease is responsible for 400,000 premature deaths annually. If no community-based campaigns are initiated to intervene, the number is expected to increase.
This major public health challenge requires immediate plan of action. These actions include standardization of care at public and private sectors, development and implementation of nationwide diabetes registry and integrated approach to diabetes and NCD care. Continuing education in management, cultural competence and leadership developmental programs are also responsibilities of public health.
Hence, training and capacity building for NCD managers at all levels is the key for initiation of successful prevention plans in future. Moreover, utilization of electronic, social and print media for propagation of the right message is of utmost importance.
Producing advocates of health for policy development, education and other relevant stakeholders for community-orientated prevention strategies will lead to better and integrated programs leading to better service provision for community.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that one of my MNAs was offered 20 Crore Rupees by Opposition to sell loyalty, PM Imran was delivering his speech in Governor House Karachi on Wednesday in a super aggressive mood.
PM Khan directed to his MNA’s that any person from the Opposition side if offers you 15 or 20 Coror rupees, do not miss it, in fact take that 15 or 20 crore from them and use for the welfare of people.
Therefore, I personally feel that PM Imran and his team need a play this No-trust vote game very smartly and cleverly, because as we know that Opposition claiming 26 persons of PTI are with us… “So, This Is The Point to utilize for government”, like, if each PTI person are able to get 20 crore rupees and then you multiply 20 crore with 26 or 20 people that become almost 20 billion rupees PTI can recover in this way.
So, it is the perfect time for PTI government to use these 20 or 26 of its members to catch some of the looted money of Pakistan from Opposition during this No-trust move.

ISLAMABAD, MAR 9: Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday called upon the speaker of the National Assembly to convene a session of the lower house “as soon as possible” in order to “wrap up” the opposition’s no-confidence motion against the prime minister, adding that the country was not in a position to afford political chaos for a long time.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Chaudhry claimed that the PTI had the support of at least 184 lawmakers in the National Assembly — sufficient to doom the opposition’s motion.
“I challenge the opposition to bring the motion to House if they have 172 numbers,” the minister said as he addressed a press conference alongside Energy Minister Hammad Azhar in Islamabad.
He said the government would not hold any talks with the opposition, adding that “we tried to talk to them on electoral reforms and other matters of public interest but they did not respond to us”.
Chaudhry said the fading popularity of the PPP and the PML-N, the two main opposition parties, due to their corruption would result in their downfall.
Meanwhile, Azhar said the opposition was not able to tolerate the economic feats of the PTI government. “Despite all the crisis, Pakistan is progressing and we are being seen as a model for development.”
He said Pakistan’s current growth rate stood at 5.5pc even amid “all the challenges at hand”.
The energy minister said the political commotion being caused by the opposition was also an attack on the economy, adding “the opposition is also trying to shake the confidence of investors who are quite optimistic about Pakistan’s future.”
He maintained that PM Imran would emerge even stronger in the next two weeks, insisting that he “enjoys complete support of people”.

ISLAMABAD, MAR 9: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday said his “gun” was now aimed at PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari who he said was his “next target”.
The prime minister was addressing a rally in Karachi during a one-day visit to the city where he held a meeting with the leadership of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), an ally of his government in the Centre.
“Now my first target, who has been under my radar for a long time, is Asif Ali Zardari,” the prime minister said.
The premier also accused the former president of using the “police and thugs to get people killed”, engaging in theft and corruption and laundering money abroad.
“Asif Zardari your time is near,” he warned the PPP leader.
The prime minister also said that Zardari had kept funds to force PTI members to switch loyalties. “One of my MNAs told me he was offered Rs200 million,” he claimed.
He lashed out at the PPP co-chairperson for allegedly feigning health issues when he was summoned for hearings by the National Accountability Bureau in graft cases.
Turning his guns on other opposition leaders, the prime minister called PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif a “boot polisher”, saying he came up with different excuses every other time in courts to get hearings extended.
“Your time has come as well. You know that after the next three months you will be behind the bars,” the premier said.
He said Shehbaz had laundered billions of rupees to his son abroad, adding “I will further reduce electricity prices by retrieving money that Shehbaz’s son and son-in-law looted from the national exchequer.”
‘I will not spare you,’ Imran tells opposition
Talking about the opposition’s no-confidence motion against him, PM Imran said he had actually been waiting for such a move, underlining that the no-trust move amounted to the opposition’s “political death”.
“I’ve been waging a struggle against these thieves for 25 years because I am fighting for my country.”
He said he was busy for the past three-and-a-half-year in “stabilising the country amid “various disruptions”, warning the opposition that it should now brace for his response.
“I was thinking that somehow if only I could get a hold of their neck… the God listened to my prayer and they submitted a no-trust move. Now they have been trapped and their no-confidence move is going to rebound on them.”
He said his plan for the time ahead was also “ready”.
“I won’t stop when we hopefully win [against] the no-confidence motion. I will go after them (the opposition) and won’t spare them. My hands which had been chained will now be untied,” the PM thundered.

ISLAMABAD, MAR 8: The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered the de-sealing of Islamabad's Monal Restaurant, suspending the January 11 Islamabad High Court order of sealing and taking over possession of the restaurant situated in the picturesque Margalla Hills.
The apex court order was issued by a three-member bench headed by Justice Ijazul Ahsan.
The IHC had on Jan 11 ordered capital authorities to seal Monal Restaurant and take control of the Margalla Greens Golf Club built on encroached land. The court had also declared the military’s claim to 8,000 acres of Margalla Hills National Park illegal.
The Monal Group of Companies had subsequently challenged the IHC verdict in the top court, urging it to revoke the high court orders.
At the hearing today, Justice Ahsan questioned whether the IHC had issued a signed order to seal the restaurant.
In response, the counsel of the restaurant, Makhdom Ali Khan, stated that a certified copy of the IHC's brief order was available with him.
He said an intra-court appeal had been fixed, but the case was dismissed before hearing.
The top court questioned how the restaurant could be sealed before issuance of the written orders from the court. "The Islamabad Wild Life Management Board (IWMB), which sealed the restaurant, was not even a party to the case," Justice Ahsan pointed out.
"Principally there is no order of the IHC available for sealing the restaurant, while verbal orders have no legal or constitutional standing," Justice Mazahir Naqvi, another judge on the bench, said.
Justice Ahsan said other restaurants had apparently been served a notice before being sealed. "However, this was not the case with the Monal Restaurant."
The judge asked the IWMB lawyer about the number of restaurants sealed by his board.
"Gloria Jeans Cafe and La Montana have been issued notices so far," the lawyer said.
Justice Naqvi resented the action against Monal Restaurant and asked: "Is it a monarchy that the emperor issued the decree and it was implemented before it was signed?"
The court then issued directions to the authorities to de-seal the restaurant.
In its petition, the restaurant had pleaded before the apex court that the high court, while exercising suo motu powers, had ordered the Capital Development Authority chairman and the IWMB to take over the possession of the restaurant and seal the premises when none of the parties had sought such a direction thus seriously prejudicing the fundamental rights of the petitioner.
The petition had contended that the Monal Group of Companies employed 650 individuals and as a result of the high court order, the employees and their families were suffering.
Earlier on November 9, the IHC had blamed several authorities for being complacent about the destruction of Margalla Hills National Park and the wildlife sanctuary. The court had also ordered a survey to be carried out on the damage and a report to be submitted.
In the same month, the court had also asked the attorney general for Pakistan to explain if Messers Remount, the veterinary and farms directorate of the General Headquarters, could legally own or manage state land within the protected area of the national park.
The question arose when Monal Group of Companies pleaded that before the expiry of its lease agreement with the Capital Development Authority on Aug 31, 2021, the company had entered into a fresh agreement with Remount.
